The initial idea behind these portraits was to make a series of paintings with a focus on the changing temperaments of a girl on the cusp of becoming a teenager. The model for these works is a human being very close to my heart and as I painted her I realised how the whole history of knowing a person piles into portraits such as these. They have become more than their original intention and I intend to pursue this new direction further. ‘Eleven’, shown at the 136th Royal Ulster Academy’s Annual Exhibition in Belfast 2017, ‘Twelve and a Half’, shown at the 188th Royal Hibernian Academy’s Annual Exhibition in Dublin 2018 and ‘Thirteen’ are pictured below.
