Treading a Fine Line is a new body of work exhibited at The Model during February 2020. The wording below is taken from the Model’s panel text accompanying the exhibition.

‘Primarily a painter, Emma’s practice is underpinned by a dedication to life-drawing which has influenced this current body of work. Rooted in real life observations and experiences her compositions develop further during the painting process and new environments and relationships between the figures inhabiting the images emerge.

This Side of the Wall, oil on canvas, 40cm x 40cm, 2020

Permeated by evocative plumes of colour, her work goes in search of pivotal moments between certainty and uncertainty. Playful gestures and more serious undercurrents hang in the balance challenging perceptions of performance versus reality.
