‘From Sand To Glass’

Along the coastline where I live there are some places where the ocean is very shallow and as the tides turn for a short while there is a thin layer of water on the sand. This reflects the light and it can be hard to tell where the ground stops and the sky begins. The paintings shows a moment such as this. The sands become as reflective as glass hence my title ‘From Sand To Glass’, also a playful take on the fact that glass is derived from sand.

Towards Infinite Tomorrows, Oil on Canvas, 50cm x 60cm, Photography Dickon Whitehead 2017

‘Towards Infinite Tomorrows’

Some of the most dramatic skies are to be seen at dusk and dawn. These light shows often begin and close our day in a most awe inspiring way. The day ends only to begin again. No matter what the events of the last 24 hours have been there will always be a new start, another chance tomorrow. I think there is great comfort in this rhythm. This is an optimistic painting, closing the day and heading towards all the possibilities held by infinite tomorrows.
